The UNESCO Chair ‘Cultural Policy for the Arts in Development’ at the University of Hildesheim in collaboration with the German Federal Foreign Office cordially invites to the ARTS RIGHTS JUSTICE FORUM on September 7, 2018 in Berlin.
The ARJ FORUM brings together international experts discussing, protecting and defending freedom of expression and artistic freedom in relation to human rights and social justice.

Increasingly, we are seeing restrictions being placed on freedom of artistic creation and mobility. Specific threats are being made towards artists and defenders of human rights who are engaged in social transformation processes. This highlights the importance of considering artistic creativity and the role of artists in societies where human rights and freedoms are at risk. The public ARJ FORUM will address key issues on the topic of ARTS RIGHTS JUSTICE:

  • How to protect and ensure freedom of artistic expression in times of emerging censorship?
  • How can international coalitions advocate for and protect artists at risk and create shelters in their specific regions?
  • How to ensure legal frameworks promoting and protecting freedom of artistic expression?

PLEASE FIND THE PROGRAM OF THE ARJ FORUM 2018 SOON ON OUR WEBSITE: www.arts-rights-justice.de.

It is important that artistic creation and the role of artists are considered in relation to human rights and freedom in society. To this end, the ARTS RIGHTS JUSTICE PROGRAM seeks to convey and professionalize skills, ensure the exchange of knowledge, make the most of multiplier effects and build expertise on the subject. Therefore, the aim is to strengthen and expand structures for the promotion and protection of artistic freedom.

The program was developed in cooperation with 30 international expert institutions with the support of the German Foreign Office and the International Cities of Refuge Network (ICORN). The program collaborates with a broad variety of actors in the sector.
