Call for applications: international citizen media award 2017

Applications for the International Citizen Media Award 2017 are now open. This award intends to honour outstanding international work in the field of citizen media, as well as its products in the categories of video and audio which have been created by private and non-commercial producers. The award highlights the dedication of citizens of all countries, their audiovisual works and their reporting on locally, regionally, globally and socially relevant topics. Applications for the International Citizen Media Award 2017 are now open. This award intends to honour outstanding international work in the field of citizen media, as well as its products in the categories of video and audio which have been created by private and non-commercial producers.

The award highlights the dedication of citizens of all countries, their audiovisual works and their reporting on locally, regionally, globally and socially relevant topics.

The theme of this year’s award is “Cultural Heritage – The memory of our past, the key to our future”.

Several prizes, consisting of a cash award, a trophy and a certificate, will be handed over by a jury of experts in radio and television. For the video category, the winner will be awarded €700 and the runner-up €400, while the project in third place gets €200; for the audio category, the winner will be awarded €300.

The following guidelines apply:

  • Producers should be single participants, groups, associations, civil initiatives, school classes and especially producers, actors and editorial teams in the field of citizen media work, resident in any location outside of Germany. Only one product can be sent per producer;
  • The audio or video work should be no longer than 20 minutes, and should have been produced between 1 January 2016 and 28 February 2017;
  • The product has to be in English. Non-English products in both the video and audio category must include an English transcript or, in the case of a video product, English subtitles.

Include your media product in any of the following delivery formats: video DVD, Mini DV tape, DVCAM tape, online (via FTP download, WeTransfer, a filehoster or permanently available on a video portal like YouTube), as a file saved on BluRay, DVD, CD, USB flash drive, SD card, or as an audio CD (for products in the audio category).

The winners of the International Citizen Media Award will be presented with their awards on 6 May 2017 in the Citizen Media Center Bennohaus  in Münster (Germany).
