Call for applications: visions du réel documentary film festival 2017

Submissions for the 48th edition of the Visions du Réel documentary film festival, set to take place from 21-29 April 2017 in Nyon (Switzerland), are now open. The festival is looking for creative documentaries finished during the 12 months preceding the festival, to be presented as world, international or European premieres. The festival is composed of five competitive sections:- The international competition, open to short, medium-length and feature films; – Regard Neuf, open to first feature films;- Helvétiques, open to medium-length and feature films produced or co-produced by Switzerland;- Premier Pas, open to short films produced by a film school; – Grand Angle, open to feature films, presented at least as Swiss premieres. Fourteen financial prizes will be handed out, ranging from CHF 3,000 to CHF 10,000.

Please note that an entry fee of CHF 20 applies for each film submitted.

The submission deadline is 8 January 2017 for films scheduled to be completed by the end of February 2017.

The notification of the final selection, including an indication of the section, will be sent by the end of February 2017 at the latest.

The festival also has a film market, the Doc Outlook – International Market (DOCM), which promotes films at every stage of their development and offers a key networking platform for professionals from all around the world. The submission deadline for three of the Doc Outlook events, Pitching du RéelRough Cut Lab and Docs in Progress, is 15 December 2016.

Visions du Réel is one of the few Swiss film festivals to present a majority of its films as world or international premieres. It also offers the unique opportunity to meet the film directors, who are present at the first screening of each of their films. The festival is also a stepping stone for new talent. Alongside a very varied programme, the gathering also offers master classes, debates with film directors, meetings with professionals and many cultural mediation activities. In 2016, the festival programmed 180 films from 49 countries, 116 of which were world or international premieres. It gathered together 39,000 visitors and more than 1,000 professionals from the film industry.
