Freedom of Artistic Expression Programme Officer (part-time), Southeast and Eastern Europe

Freemuse is seeking qualified candidates for the above position. The Southeast and Eastern Europe Programme Officer (SEE Europe PO) will be hosted by a partner organisation in Belgrade, Serbia

Objectives/Tasks:

The SEE Europe PO shall on behalf of Freemuse document, monitor and analyse violations of artists’ rights to Freedom of Expression in Southeast and Eastern Europe and monitor policies, laws and political and social developments that may affect freedom of expression. The work includes writing articles and analytical reports to Freemuse.

The PO will assist with researching, developing and monitoring campaigns and actions in support of artists at risk. S/he will further advocate artists’ rights to freedom of expression in the region according to Freemuse policies and guidelines and identify, develop and maintain a network of partners including artists, cultural and artist civil society organisations, and human rights and freedom of expression organisations in the region. The PO will represent the organisation at meetings and conferences in the region and will assist with fundraising.

Requirements:

The candidate must have at least 2-3 years previous, documented and qualified work experience from at least three of the following fields:

  • Human Rights Studies/International Studies/Political Science/Law
  • Research/Journalism
  • Monitoring/Reporting
  • Cultural production
  • Advocacy

Language and writing skills: Fluent in English and at least one major Southeast or Eastern European language essential.

Technical skills:

Word, Excel at professional level essential. Skills of photography or video recording and familiarity with WordPress and web editing an advantage.

The candidate must have good communicating skills, experience of networking, be flexible and able to adjust to different working environments and able to travel in the region

The candidate must be reliable, open minded, acquainted with popular culture in Southeast and Eastern Europe and be able to keep deadlines.

Previous experience with fundraising and reporting to donors an asset.

Experience with project and budget management essential.

Salary

Recommended standards of Serbian salaries and insurances are applied.
