In partnership with the Théâtre Nomade association and with the funding of Oxfam Maroc Fundation, Racines organized an Awareness Day of Violence Against Women in Public Space on Sunday 6 May 2018 from 4.30 pm until 7 pm on the Place des Nations Unies in Casablanca.
This event aimed at raising awareness and challenge the large public, through arts and culture, as well as mobilize them around this issue, and encourage all members of the community to play an active role in changing the social norms that justify sexual violence in public space.
The audience attended and took part in several activities: a street theater play, followed by a giant puppets parade and 3 street music concerts on violence against women.
The event is part of the national campaign “BARAKA! Together against violence” launched by Oxfam in Morocco to challenge gender stereotypes and to contribute, through artistic expression, to deconstruct the social norms that perpetuate violence.
