Petition to include arts education in the Moroccan public schools !

A group of Moroccan visual arts and music teachers as well as inspectors, launched a petition following the coming establishment of ” Institutions of Artistic and Literary Creativity” by the Ministry of Education, considering that this decision was taken without a prior project study neither a consultation with the professionals; and that such institutions will consume a huge budget (1.05 million dh per institution). In addition, this group of professionals in arts education considers it as essential and that it must remain an integral part of the curriculum in public schools, to promote the personal cognitive and emotional development of the Moroccan children, to participate in their well-being, to encourage their love for the arts, and eventually to open their horizons on arts and culture, as a profession for the future. The 2011 Constitution guarantees everyone the right to receive an arts education. The government is preparing to allocate arts education for an elite and also to move the arts teachers from their public schools in some institutions that have no requirement for a quality cultural programming.
