The Sound of the South : towards the organization of the first edition of Wennibik festival, peace by diversity 

In January 2016, Racines launched its program “The Sound of the South”. This is a professional training for careers in technical production and methodology for the development of cultural projects as well as cultural management, intended for youth from Laayoune-Sakia-El Hamra Region. A group of thirty recipients have participated in monthly sessions, from Laayoune, Smara, Boujdour and Tarfaya. 

 

In parallel with this program, the musician Barry and his band, together with three hassani musicians, participated to a  6-month residency and are preparing a fusion album and a tour.

 

To close this first year of training, the students have designed “Wennibik festival” on the theme “Peace by diversity”, and they will ensure its organizational and technical aspects, in order to put into practice the knowledge acquired throughout the sessions. The festival is scheduled from 19 th to 22nd January 2017 in Laayoune. The artistic program will combine lectures, Hassani poetry evenings, concerts, street theater, graffiti, urban sports performances, a photo exhibition and theater.

 

“The Sound of the South” is a project held by Racines, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Youth and Sports; and with the support of the Foundation Phosboucraa.
